Proxy advisors or Proxy Advisors have become increasingly important in the general meetings of Spanish listed companies, in similar terms to what has happened in other countries. This article studies the origin and evolution of proxy advisors, the characteristics that separate them from other providers of services related to voting at general meetings, the main problems posed by their activity and the regulatory alternatives followed so far in the European Union and North America. Finally, the practical impact of proxy advisors in Spain is analysed.
